Filipino tenor Mark Christian Bautista was a prize winner for several classical vocal competitions, including 1st prize at the Festival Singing Competition – Dean and Chadlington Summer Music Festival 2019, “Dvořák Society for Czech and Slovak Music Prize” at the Emmy Destinn Young Singers Award 2019 and the 2nd prize at the Pendine International Voice of the Future competition at the 72nd Llangollen International Musical Eistedfodd 2018 in Wales, UK. He was also a Finalist at the XX Certamen Nuevas Voces 2024 by the ASAÓ in Seville, Spain, and a Semi-Finalist at the Renata Tebaldi International Voice Competition 2024.
He is an alumnus of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama Opera Course under the tutelage of Professor Susan Waters in London, UK.
His performance experiences are in the operatic, recital, choral music and classical concert stages in the Philippines, the UK and Europe, with venues such as the Glyndebourne, Grange Park Opera, Barbican Hall, Milton Court Concert Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, St. John Smith Square, and the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
In Manila, he was a tenor soloist and has performed with the Manila Symphony Orchestra as part of its Rush Hour Concert Series in 2016. This led to several engagements with the MSO and vocal recitals as a young artist of the Viva Voce Voice Labs, a Filipino Young Artist Opera Studio under the tutelage of Artistic Directors Camille Lopez-Molina and Pablo Molina.
His stage and operatic experiences in the UK includes Alfredo La Traviata (Oxford Opera Company), Rodolfo La boheme (North Wales Opera Studio), Father Grenville, Howard Boucher, Motorcycle Cop Dead Man Walking, Tiberge Le Portrait de Manon, Harlequin Fête galante, Raimondo I due timidi, Der Gehilfe Der Zar lässt sich photographieren, Le Comte Barigoule (cover) Cendrillon, Nerone L’incoronazione di poppea and scenes from La Rondine, Roméo et Juliette, L’elisir d’amore, L’heure espagnole, Die tote Stadt, Midsummer Night’s Dream, Il barbiere di Siviglia (Guildhall Opera School), Chorus Don Giovanni, L’elisir d’amore, Semele, Rake’s Progress, Carmen, Die Zauberflöte, Merry Widow, Tristan und Isolde (Glyndebourne) , Chorus Porgy and Bess (Grange Park Opera), Tom Rakewell (cover)/Chorus Rake’s Progress (British Youth Opera).
Some Highlights of his recent tenor solo debut was with the Glyndebourne for the annual Christmas Concert Celebration with conductor Aidan Oliver, The Glyndebourne Chorus and Glyndebourne Sinfonia. However, his debut in Europe was celebrated at an opera gala performance organised by the Sinfonisches Orchester Arbon and conductor Maestro Leo Gschwend in Arbon, Switzerland as part of the SchlosoffKonzerte Arbon 2022 : VERDI.
He co-founded The Virtual Opera Studio, a group dedicated to support virtual performances and offers virtual opportunities for singers around the world.
He was a recipient of numerous scholarships and grants including The Herbert & Theresie Lowit Memorial Scholarship, The Sally Cohen Opera Scholarship, The Dow Clewer Foundation Scholarship, The Elizabeth Sweeting Award, Senior Choral Scholarship of the St. Leonard’s Church, Help Musicians UK, The Guildhall School Trust, Ann Driver Trust Scholarship and The Kathleen Trust. Most recently, he was selected to receive a Bursary Award for Career Development in the International Opera Awards 2024 by the Opera Awards Foundation.
